What is a nurse-midwife?

Nurse-midwives are like nurse practitioners who specialize in women’s health care, especially in the time surrounding pregnancy & birth. They first were educated and practiced as Registered Nurses, and then completed either a Masters degree or a Doctorate degree in Nurse-Midwifery. Nurse-Midwives support the natural process of pregnancy & birth and are educated to handle complications, if they arise.

What is a licensed- midwife?

A licensed midwife is a trained healthcare provider who cares for women during pregnancy, childbirth, and after delivery. They support natural home births, water births, and vaginal births after cesareans (VBAC). Their training includes prenatal care, labor support, and newborn care, allowing them to spot and address potential problems. They provide personalized education and counseling to help families make informed decisions about their birth. Midwives aim to create a supportive atmosphere that respects each family's choices.

We offer full-scope midwifery, lactation, & primary care from annual exams to lactation consults, and everything in-between! You can expect to receive individualized attention and care.  Midwives Dr. Teri Mitchell, APRN CNM & Tereé Fruga, LM CPCM would be honored to meet with you to discuss the services that we provide, including safe, evidenced-based, home birth care for low-risk individuals, as well as a pathway for planned hospital-based midwifery for your birth.
